The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe secures new ratings for ITV

ITV are celebrating after The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe helped secure them their highest Easter ratings in 12 years.

It was the first episode of the four part drama, based on the crimes of ‘canoe man’ John Darwin and wife Anne, which trumped all comers this Easter weekend, with a peak audience of 8.7 million, ITV’s biggest Easter Sunday audience since 2010’s final series of Touch of Frost.

A four-part ITV drama, based on the extraordinary story of how prison officer John Darwin (Eddie Marsan) faked his own death to claim life insurance and avoid bankruptcy - unbeknownst to his two sons.
